Shiffrin leads after the first run ahead of Brignone and Grenier

( 08. 01. 2023 )
Mikaela Shiffrin set the best time of the first run (55.30) with the starting number 1 and secured a great position to win the second giant slalom of the 59th Golden Fox.

Equalling the record for the most FIS Women's World Cup victories is within reach for Mikaela Shiffrin, who finished the first run of the second giant slalom of the 59th Golden Fox with a 24 hundredths advantage over second-placed Federica Brignone and 39 hundredths ahead of yesterday's winner Valerie Grenier. Marta Bassino, Lara Gut-Behrami, Sara Hector and Petra Vlhova also finished the first run less than a second behind. The fight for the podium remains intense and promises to be an interesting second run, starting at 12:30 in Podkoren.

Two of the three Slovenian Foxes - Ana Bucik with an excellent 10th place (+1.23) and Tina Robnik with a 26th place (+2.18) - are also in the top 30, but unfortunately for Neja Dvornik (40th) today's race ended prematurely.
