It was a long day with a tough race in cold weather. While competitors had some rest, their service team were sharpening the edges. Some need it to repeat today's success and some to seize the new opportunity tomorrow. We are expecting a very close and tough fight for Sunday's 57. Golden Fox giant slalom.
In long tradition of this competition, it rarely happened that both races were of the same discipline. Last double race was in 1996 with two giant slaloms and one slalom race. This Golden Fox race is an opportunity for Marta Bassino to continue her series of victories. Each time when she qualified in this season, she won. Tessa Worley is right behind her and American Mikaela Shiffrin, who will open tomorrow's race, is also a rival.
Today's giant slalom race showed many skiers were not competing only with other competitors. They were competing with the race course itself. Usually there is not many as demanding race courses with such hard snow surface in women's alpine skiing as we saw today. For this reason many competitors had difficulties with ski settings and adjusting to extreme weather and racing conditions. Meaning this Sunday is a new chance for all!
Slovenians did not disappoint after the first giant slalom race, yet there is still room for improvements. Meta Hrovat finally got back her feeling for racing, but did not take the lead. Tina Robnik lost a lot in the first run, Andreja Slokar was indeed really close to finals, Ana Bucik was not satisfied with the performance … It will be interesting!
