Light snowing finally set the snowguns in motion

( 27. 12. 2008 )

''On Monday we're starting with stands setting in the finish arena,'' forecast Chief of the technical committee, Drago Rataj, on Saturday afternoon. That means that the Golden Fox Trophy is staying in Maribor!

The snowing was crucial. After the snowguns had started blowing snow also on the lower part of the race slope during the Saturday night, the temperatures rose a little bit and afterwards it began lightly to snow. And that was decisive.'' Although it's only lightly snowing, it helps. Because of that the snowguns need 1,5 degree less frost,'' was obviously glad Chief of snow making, Milan Šmon.

''We need three more nights to make enough snow, that means 30 thousand cubic metres,'' said Gorazd Bedrač, Chief of the race. ''It's going to be cold at least until Tuesday, but also after the New Year a cold front is expected.''

In the last 24 hours 35 snowguns, arranged along the whole length of the race slope, managed to make 10 cubic metres of snow, so the upper part of the slope was covered already with  80% of all snow needed, and the lower one 30%. In the accumulation lakes there's enough water. Obviously, there's one more New Year’s Eve on the slope ahead for the organizers.
