Snowmaking finally started!

( 21. 12. 2017 )
While having enough snow cannons and sufficient water supply, organizers of 54. Golden Fox only wish for colder weather

Even though predicted cold front has not appeared yet, temperatures just a few degrees below freezing enabled the organizers to start with artificial snowmaking using  all snow cannons available alongside entire racecourse.

Chief of Race Mitja Dragšič  is pleased at the moment, yet worried at the same time : »All 55 snow cannons placed from top of Hababuk all the way to the valley were running overnight until noon, 40 of which are covering the racecourse area. Water supply is sufficient, the entire system is running smoothly which are good news. However, we are worried about the weather conditions. We need colder temperatures that would last for a longer time».

FIS snow control is scheduled for 28. December 2017. Hans Grogl from Schladming, Austria will be the appointed FIS controller like previous year. Racecourse does not need to be completely ready until then, although it does need to be covered with a proper snow layer that would last over the New Years.  For these reasons, upcoming week before Christmas will be decisive. Weather forecast predicts conditions that could enable at least three days of snowmaking during which it will be possible to cover up to 50% of the racecourse. » We had enough snow in the upper part, but rain ruined it. We had to start all over again« said Mitja Dragšič, who wishes for inversion to set in and the temperatures to drop. Nonetheless, inversion is known to appear on Pohorje just before the year-ends and we should stay optimistic!
